UNFPA has published a set of technical briefs on examining and addressing adolescent sexual and reproductive health through a COVID-19 lens. This webinar is the third of a series, which discusses surveys and assessments on young people and COVID-19. 

While children and young people have been spared the full force of Coronavirus itself, the worst is yet to come for this generation as the global economy enters unchartered territory. Latest projections from UNICEF and partners indicate that nearly half a billion children in total will live in poor households by the end of 2020.

Lockdowns to control the health crisis are having severe repercussions as they cascade down, with children being twice as likely to end up in poverty than other groups and prospects for young people drastically reduced. Just in Europe and north America alone some 90 million full-time jobs were lost in the second quarter, according to the ILO. The COVID-recession not only threatens to erode global development but is predicted to have a broader and deeper impact than the 2008 financial crisis as it hits both supply and demand chains as well as informal sectors across Africa and South Asia. But does it have to be as bad as it seems?

We ask a panel of experts where the economy stands now, what lies ahead and how do we make the best of the worst that is to come for children and young people.

Hosted by The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH), White Ribbon Alliance and Every Woman Every Child, the event brings together stakeholders from governments to grass-roots organizations — people with power to make changes and people calling for those changes to be made.

Led by the Rt Hon Helen Clark, former Prime Minister of New Zealand and Chair of PMNCH, and moderated by Mercy Juma of BBC, the event presents new data and evidence from the EWEC@10 report, shares voices from the community with the lived experiences of women and girls, and launches the new PMNCH five-year strategy and Call to Action on COVID-19 campaign for women, children and adolescents.

The event features moderated chats and live polling with simultaneous sign language interpretation and French/Spanish translation.

Mobilizing to Prevent a Lost Generation: a virtual event in the context of the 75th session of UNGA high-level week.

This high-level side event will be hosted by the Government of Zambia and Government of Canada, alongside UNFPA and UNICEF.

This webinar presents the findings from a partnership between the University of California San Diego and UNICEF Communication for Development (C4D) and Child Protection teams, which explored population level data to identify drivers of social and behavior change for child marriage. This partnership was created in response to a need for more evidence-based C4D interventions to reduce child marriage.

The Fifteenth Annual Meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) will be hosted online by the United Nations under the overarching theme: Internet for human resilience and solidarity. The programme continues to develop around the four main thematic tracks:

1. Data 
2. Environment
3. Inclusion
4. Trust

The IGF 2020 pre-events, newcomers sessions, thematic introductory sessions, as well as the Open Forums, NRIs and DC sessions will be hosted from 2 to 6 November during the first meeting's phase.

The online edition of Mobile Learning Week 2020 will be held from 12 to 14 October 2020. In this opportunity, the MLW is devoted to the theme of Beyond Disruption: Technology Enabled Learning Futures. MLW 2020 is set against the backdrop of COVID-19 education disruption and response, and will shine a light on prospects for technology-enabled futures of learning.

Mobile Learning Week (MLW) is the United Nations’ flagship event on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education, and has been organized by UNESCO and its partners for eight years consecutively.
