Investing for the Future: Supporting women’s economic empowerment post-pandemic
Investing for the Future: Supporting women’s economic empowerment post-pandemic
The current COVID-19 pandemic is not only a global health crisis, but a social and economic crisis that has disproportionately affected women by exacerbating already existing and intersecting forms of inequality. The negative economic impact of lockdowns and the decreased demand for goods and services often produced or provided by women are posing a real threat to women’s employment, livelihoods, and economic empowerment.
In the third event of a series hosted by DevEx and the CDC, you'll hear from:
- Mary Ellen Iskenderian, President and CEO, Women's World Banking
- Anu Madgavkar, Partner, Mumbai, McKinsey Global Institute
- Arpita Raksit, Gender Lead, CDC Group
Expert panelists will discuss the effects of COVID-19 on women’s economic empowerment and livelihoods, but also explore some of the solutions that can help ensure their access to finance, job opportunities, and career growth. The panel will specifically explore the role that impact investors, financial institutions, responsible investors, and the private sector could play in sustainable job creation and why this must be at the forefront of the economic recovery post-pandemic.

Launch Event: Education Under Attack 2020
The Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA), together with the Permanent Missions of Norway, Argentina, Qatar and Spain to the UN in Geneva, are holding a virtual event to launch Education Under Attack 2020.
GCPEA will release the findings from the 2020 edition of its flagship report, Education Under Attack, a global study of targeted and indiscriminate attacks on schools and universities, their students and staff, from 2017 to 2019. The event will underscore trends in educational institutions being bombed and burned and used for military purposes, and students and educators being killed, injured, raped, abducted and recruited at schools and en route to them. Speakers will highlight the impact of these attacks and progress in preventing and responding to them.
