Tostan is a community empowerment organization working across West Africa to promote human rights, inclusive community dialogue, and empowering education. Tostan has created impact for over 30 years through its Community Empowerment Programme (CEP), which supports communities in defining their aspirations, and then achieving them together. An important element of this empowerment journey is learning about the rights of children, and reinforcing positive parental practices whilst fostering open dialogues about the consequences of negative social norms, including violence against children. Tostan inspires honest and open conversations about the negative social, psychological, and health impacts of these harmful practices, and helps communities in autonomously moving towards holistic community well-being in a sustainable way. Since 2015, Tostan has worked to share its program principles with over 600 African CSOs, religious leaders and other development partners from 60 countries through the Tostan Training Centre (TTC).
