Blue Tree Foundation

The Blue Tree Foundation (BTF; The Foundation for Preventing Youth Violence), founded by a father who lost his only son to school violence, is the first in Korea to inform civil society about the seriousness of school violence and to prevent and treat it. It is a youth NGO that has been granted special consultative status by the UN ECOSOC. Starting with 5 employees at the time of its establishment, 369 officers and employees and 541 educational activists nationwide are now spreading the non-violent culture together. In addition, it is operating 10 nationwide branches and 16 direct and entrusted youth facilities. The Blue Tree Foundation has developed a preventive education model called CEMD (Character • EQ • Moral • Dilemma Approach) and operates education programs based on it. This approach has contributed to a reduction in school/cyber violence, and violence within military units. At the same time, the foundation provides counseling services and emergency dispatch for those who are affected by school/cyber violence trauma. It also supports scholarships and cultural programs for low-income families and children wounded by school/cyber violence. On the other hand, the foundation proposes various policies and the establishment of laws and systems to combat school violence and cyber violence through continuous monitoring and research. As the extension of its research and monitoring efforts, the foundation has published an annual national school violence survey report since 2001.
